Invitation (May 1) Hi XC families,
Our runners have been doing strong in this Track and Field season. We would like to ride this momentum to kick start the High Altitude Camp planning. For those who were in the camp last year, you should expect even better running trail experience as we have heard feedback from many of the runners. For freshmen families who are new to this camp, this is a non-profit effort by volunteer parents, who are committed to the principles of sportsmanship, team building, and budget transparency. If you want to refresh your memory of last year, click here to see the 2022 camp page, where not only you can see photos but also how we planned and executed in detail.
There are a couple of options on the table including schedule, location, and budget. Considering what we have learned from last year and the current economic situation, the most feasible proposal is:
Camp dates are from July 24 (Mon) to July 30 (Sun), during which 24th and 30th are transportation days and there are 5 training days. This is meant to prep runners for the new XC season starting 10 days after.
Training ground is in Bear Valley area
Housing in Arnold, CA, where all campers and parents can sleep under the same roof
The camp is also open to graduating seniors, and potentially to incoming freshmen runners
Best estimate cost for each camper is $600 if we can get 16 campers. Budget plan is transparent to each family. Leftover funds will be returned to families (as we did in 2022). If funds run short, each family will have to chip in more evenly.
Please reply to John before end of this weekend (May 7) on:
1) whether you can commit to this camp. If you can't, what change do you need so that your runner can join? 2) If you need more time to think or work out summer schedule, let me know as well. 3) any questions you have
Giving the manpower we have, only 12 slots are being planned for camp 2023. After knowing more on the participation situation, I will update this group in the week of May 15 on training plan, counselor role, and budget updates.
