Wildfire
In State Route 4 corridor where the campsite and Bear Valley trails are located does not have any wildfire as of July 27. There are one major, the Yosemite Fire (or Washburn Fire) which is 91% contained, and 3 minor wildfire instances (see Cal Fire map) that have air quality impact to the camp. Safety plan is described below.
- If the fire location potentially blocks the way back to Santa Cruz, evacuation takes place right away. Note that we won't wait for county or government official evacuation order.
- As soon as Cal Fire releases an update (normally twice a day), air quality and safety measures will be reviewed by camp boosters. Evacuation takes place as soon as camp boosters determine so.
- In case of evacuation, frequent text updates will be sent immediately and frequently until all kids are back to Santa Cruz. Otherwise, regular daily update to camp families will be sent every late afternoon.

California Law for Camps
The High Altitude Camp 2022, or the camp, does not meet the definition of Organized Camp under the California Law (link). However the camp references the Law, which provides a guideline on what to cover. That includes:

- Lost campers.
- Fires.
- Transportation emergencies.
- Severe illnesses and injuries.
- Strangers in camp.
- Aquatic emergencies as appropriate for the site.
- Other emergency situations as appropriate for the site.

Natural Disasters
Should any natural disaster instance occur, evacuation plan follows the Wildfire procedure, and medical emergencies follows the Severe Illness and Injuries procedure, described in the beginning of this page.
Lost Camper
Headcount will be conducted before and after each trail run by a camp booster or a designated camper. If there is a lost camper, the camp will conduct a search along the running trail. If the lost camper cannot be found with reasonable effort 2 hours before sunset, the camp calls 911 and parents/guardians.
Fires
A campsite fire evacuation zone will be identified once camp boosters arrives at the campsite and communicated to campers during the Orientation. In case of fire on the campsite, designated camp booster will make sure all campers are out of the house and headcount will be conducted in the evacuation zone.
Transportation Emergency
Every day, multiple shuttle cars driven by camp boosters take campers to the running trails or dining locations. Should vehicle breakdown occurs, camp boosters call each other to shuttle campers in broken car to the destination. Future shuttling effort will use cars that are available to the camp, and the camp will request a backup vehicle from camper families to help out.
Severe Illness and Injuries
One camp booster is experienced, but not professionally, in sports illness and injuries. If a severe case is determined. following medical facilities will be considered based on the nature of the illness and injuries.
